Buying a Used Car In Great Falls - This is a Wise Way!

I have always purchased my cars used. And each time, I got good deals. I did this by not counting on luck, though there are a few things that you should do to make sure you are buying a sound-used car.

I know it costs a little money to have a used car inspected by a professional, and it can save you a lot of headaches in the future. I also look at websites like car complaints to see what other problems people are having with this particular make and model.

Go to a reputable car repair shop in Great Falls and ask if you can bring the vehicle for an inspection. While you're there, ask what used cars they often have to repair. Also, ask what the review includes, how long it takes, and the price. Always get this information in writing - to be safe.

When the vehicle has been inspected, ask the mechanic for a written report. Also, get a cost estimate for all necessary repairs. Be sure the information is accurate, and the repairs they suggest are essential or just maintenance items that may need to be fixed in the future.

Buying a car from a private seller has more risks than buying from a local Great Falls Dealer.

Individual sellers can abide by different rules that licensed and bonded dealers have to live with. So once the transaction is complete, you have no recourse to fix any problems that may pop up. One of the most common is a mistake in the title work.

Whether you buy a used car from a private party or a licensed dealer. Always a good idea to make sure you have some warranty when you walk out the door, they cost a little upfront, but they may save you thousands in repairs in the future.

When I buy a car, no matter if it is from a friend or a stranger, I make sure that I follow these steps.

1. Scrutinize the car yourself using an inspection checklist. You can find a list in many magazine articles, books, and Internet sites dealing with buying a used car.

I bought cars in the summer and forgot to check if the heater was working, only to find out the car needed an expensive repair on the first cold day. I also want to ensure the vehicle has a good spare tire and all the tools; I have often found this out the hard way.

Always test drive the car on all kinds of surfaces; you can always

ask for the car's maintenance record; most people need to keep good records, but it never hurts to ask.

In conclusion, always have the vehicle looked over by a mechanic you trust. Don't take a referral from the dealer or person selling you the car. Make sure it is your choice. Do your homework, and it's likely that, like me, you'll buy a good used car every time!
